Chameleon Power Brings Technology to Flooring

Chameleon Power has become key in the realm of visualization software over the past 20 years. The Michigan-based technology company’s offerings range from 2D and 3D images to virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) technologies that manufacturers can use on their websites to help consumers visualize what a room will look like with a specific type of flooring.
“We came up with a way to alter photographs online,” Dan Dempsey, president, Chameleon Power, said. “We maintain the natural lighting and shadowing, but can change the flooring in a room scene. It’s an accurate representation of what the outcome will look like.”
Chameleon’s 2D and 3D images are used on the websites of flooring suppliers. Consumers are able to navigate through 3D room scenes on manufacturers’ websites to see how a certain product will look when installed.
Chameleon also has a graphic staff and a photography studio at its headquarters, and clients can send products over to be photographed. The company can create hundreds of room scenes for clients to use in web campaigns or on websites which, said Dempsey, can be important to the sale.
“If the user saves the image, more than 70 percent of the time they end up buying the product,” he said. “So, this is a selling technology.”
Chameleon is aligned with well-known suppliers like Mohawk and Shaw, but continues to seek expansion with dealers, since VR and AR technologies are strong selling tools on the retail side.

As for VR, the company provides an immersive experience involving goggles. The goggles virtually place the consumer in a room with products. According to Dempsey, VR works well in trade show scenarios or can aid a salesperson working with a customer one-on-one.
Finally, Chameleon offers AR technologies that allow consumers to navigate around rooms on a tablet, a convenient tool for sales associates who can show consumers products on screen.
Besides visualization tools for flooring, Chameleon provides technologies for other industries including roofing and remodeling. “It’s time to move to the next generation of technology,” said Dempsey, “and Chameleon has built it.”
